Once they saw my son and I already had some surfing experience they took us to a spot where the waves were bigger and we caught some truly memorable waves. Would I recommend them – definitely!

Today was a great day for the kids doing lessons with Zed’s Surfing Adventures.

Waves were small and clean and everyone had fun while parents watched from our shaded lawns on the beach. View our Flickr to see more.

I *highly recommend staying in a room with a view of the ocean because it’s worth it. It is so beautiful to wake up and see the waves in the morning, and have a beer at the end of the day on your own little deck watching the sun set on the water.

Cleo the cat comes around every once in a while to say hello and take naps on the chairs outside, which is really cute. She is very friendly, and if you give her a piece of fish, she will love you forever.

The rooms themselves are nothing fancy, but they had everything we needed: a mosquito net, **free wifi which worked great!, a T.V., and a DVD player. There is no cable on site, but they have tons of movies you can borrow at the office. Just ask Claudia, Zed, or Maurizio, and they will hook you up.

We had two surfing lessons which were a blast. I had never surfed before, and the instructors Junior and Jason were fantastic. They make you practice on the beach, then they take you out on the waves for a couple of hours. I, myself, felt that I got pounded on the waves, but I’m sure it’s due to lack of experience in the water and I’m kind of a baby when it comes to that kind of thing.

We had a cook-out one evening with Zed and Claudia, and some of the other guests that were on the property that day. It was a fun time of chatting and beers on the beach. It was nice to feel like you were among friends, sharing stories, and Jason, Claudia, and Zed were more than eager to answer all the questions we had about life in Barbados, which made our trip even richer and educational.

The location of Zed’s is out of the way, so I recommend renting a car. It isn’t far from Oistins where there are lots of bars and restaurants with excellent food, and a grocery store and gas station. Taking a taxi in Barbados is expensive as they charge you per person, per trip. On average, I think it would be at least $30-$50USD per couple, round trip, depending on where you want to go.

There are not a lot of people staying at one time, as I think there are only 7 or 8 rooms on the property so it has a very private feel, almost like you have the place to yourself, which is what we were going for. There are a lot of big resorts on Barbados, but if you want to do something low-key, this is the place to stay.

Overall, we had a great experience at Zed’s, and the input we received from all who work there was very helpful and appreciated. If you call and ask for information, Claudia, who is usually always there, is very gracious on the phone, and just as sweet in person. Zed, Junior, and Jason are also very charming and eager to recommend restaurants to eat at and bars to drink at.

Conchshell Ocean front apartment at Surfers Point

It was a secluded location, so not busy with tourists in the evening, just us and anyone else staying here. There’s a lovely cooling breeze in the evenings and its great to sit outside with a beer and watch the stars (it’s so clear here!)

Claudia and Zed (the hosts) are very accommodating, so too is Jason (instructor) who also lives there. When we arrived there was a bottle of chilled bubbly waiting for us (a gift from my bestman, which Claudia arranged for him). When we suggested a BBQ they were very keen and next thing knew there was a great evening of drinking and eating by the beach with all the guests and some of the staff from Zed’s – it was a wonderful night.

Our first surf lesson was with Junior, this guy is an awesome instructor and will make sure you enjoy your first lesson. After 20 minutes we were in the water and by some miracle I even caught the first wave I tried (with a helpful nudge from Junior!) but I rode it all the way in with Junior calling out instructions from behind.

Lesson two was with both Junior and Jason (as there were other people learning with us) both of them really getting us all in the mood and making sure we caught the right waves.

Lesson 3 was good too – although it was a bit too crowded on the waves, I assume because it was a Saturday – so probably worth noting when you book your lessons.

Surfers Point continually had lovely waves rolling in (day and night), there was always a wave to catch and you can’t beat that. This coupled with the friendly service, good tuition and spot on accommodation made for the perfect way to learn to surf. Zed’s seems to attract like minded people and we’ve made a couple of friends here too.

Useful info: they have a great wifi broadband connection, which was so useful and free. We’ve been able to skype our friends and use it to check trip advisor for ideas/inspiration. There is also a safe in one of the cupboards, but no instructions on how to use it (but it wouldn’t be too hard to ask I’m sure – we just never bothered)

AC Bedrooms at Zed's Courtyard "on de Beach"

The beach is fantastic and the ocean is great for learning SUP or to simply relax in.

Zed’s Courtyard “on de Beach”offers AC bedrooms with Queen size beds, each bedroom has a fridge, coffee maker and electric kettle.

The property is on the beach and we have a small courtyard to relax on afternoons in privacy.

The surf shop offer a full stock of SUP from NSP, 7S Uber Fish and Mctavisch ranging from 9.0 to 12.0.

We also carry a full line of funboards and Longboards by Watercooled and a generous stock of body boards and kayaks.

Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for guests staying in the guest house and for rent to visitors coming to the beach.

Surfer's Point Lawn

We booked on the strength of reviews here and we were very happy that we did. You stay practically beside the beach and have a lovely breakfast each day. Ask nicely and you might get some fresh Italian bread. All the staff could not have been more welcoming. They helped out a couple of Jet lagged people by organising car rental and even loaning me some board shorts!

The surfing was just brilliant. Jason and Junior are extremely good teachers and know the water like the back of their hand. They even got an improvement out of some severely out of practice winter refugees. Respect to Maurizio for catching both of us up on the same wave at the same time for the photo too.

While I was complete Yoga novice the instructor Christian went at our pace. We both found it very handy for stretching out the tired muscles after surfing.

So, if you are considering the Surfing package I would recommend it 100%. If you don’t want the package and your going to Barbados definitely call down for a lesson or two, you won’t regret it.
